Privacy Policy

What this site collects, why it collects it, and what it deliberately does not do.

Critical Thinking Exercise is a free educational site run by one person. This policy explains what information the site handles and why. It applies to every page on criticalthinkingexercise.org.

The short version: there are no accounts, no tracking cookies, and no advertising networks. The only personal information we hold is what you choose to send us.

Who we are

This site is written, published, and maintained by Tajammal Maqbool. There is no company behind it and no team. For data-protection purposes, the site operator is the data controller for any personal information described below.

You can reach the operator directly at contact@criticalthinkingexercise.org. Every message goes to a person, not a ticketing system.

Information you give us

You can use the entire site without giving us anything. The only way to send us personal information is to contact us on purpose. That happens through the contact form or by email.

When you use the contact form we receive:

  • the name you type in;
  • your email address, so we can reply;
  • the subject line and the message body.

We use that information for one purpose. We read it, and we reply if a reply is needed. We do not add you to a mailing list, because there is no mailing list.

Information collected automatically

Delivering a web page requires some technical data. Our hosting and content-delivery providers process standard server information when your browser requests a page. That usually includes your IP address, the page requested, the time of the request, your browser type, and the referring page.

This is ordinary infrastructure logging. It keeps the site available and helps block abuse. We do not use it to identify you, and we do not build visitor profiles from it.

The site is a static build. There is no application database, so there is nowhere for a visitor record to be stored on our side.

What we never collect or do

Some of the clearest statements in a privacy policy are the negative ones. On this site there are:

  • no user accounts, logins, or profiles;
  • no analytics or tracking cookies that follow you between visits;
  • no advertising networks, ad pixels, or retargeting tags;
  • no social-media tracking widgets;
  • no fingerprinting or cross-site identifiers;
  • no sale, rental, or sharing of your information with data brokers;
  • no payment processing, because nothing here is for sale.

Quiz answers and lesson progress stay in your own browser. They are never transmitted to us.

Cookies and similar technologies

This site sets no cookies of its own for analytics, advertising, or personalisation. You will not see a cookie consent banner here, because there is nothing to consent to.

Our hosting platform may set a strictly necessary cookie for security or load balancing. Cookies of that kind keep the service working and are not used to profile you. Your browser settings let you block or delete cookies at any time. The site will keep working normally if you do.

Service providers we rely on

Running the site involves a small number of third parties. Each one handles a narrow job and receives only what that job needs.

  • Web3Forms delivers contact-form submissions to our inbox. It processes your message only to pass it on. We use it because the site is a static build with no backend of its own.
  • Cloudinary hosts and optimises images. Your browser requests images from Cloudinary directly, so Cloudinary sees standard request data.
  • Cloudflare hosts and serves the site. It processes request data as part of delivering pages securely.

These providers act on our behalf and are bound by their own privacy terms. None of them is permitted by us to use your data for advertising.

How long we keep information

Messages you send us stay in the inbox for as long as they are useful. That usually means keeping a thread so the context is there if you write again about the same topic.

You can ask us to delete your correspondence at any time and we will do it. Server logs held by our infrastructure providers are kept for short periods under their own retention schedules.

Your rights over your information

Because we only hold what you have sent us, exercising your rights is simple. Email contact@criticalthinkingexercise.org and tell us what you want.

You may ask us to:

  • confirm what we hold about you and provide a copy;
  • correct anything that is inaccurate;
  • delete your messages from our records;
  • stop using your information for any purpose.

If you are in the UK, the European Economic Area, or a region with comparable law, these rights are backed by statute. They include the right to complain to your national data-protection authority. If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what is collected and to request deletion. We do not sell personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of.

We will not charge you for a request. We will not treat you differently for making one.

International visitors

The site is delivered through a global content-delivery network, so pages are served from whichever location is nearest to you. If you email us, your message may be processed in a country other than your own. By writing to us you accept that transfer, which is limited to the content of your own message.

Children and young people

The site is written for adults and older students, and it is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us information through the contact form, email us and we will delete it promptly.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS, so traffic between your browser and the site is encrypted. Contact-form submissions travel over an encrypted connection too. No system is perfectly secure. Please avoid sending sensitive personal details through a contact form on any website, including this one.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a way that matters, the updated version will appear on this page with a new effective date. There is no notification list, because the site does not collect email addresses for anything except replying to you. Checking this page is the reliable way to see the current version.
